Description
Shakshuka is a traditional North African and Middle Eastern dish of eggs
poached in a flavorful tomato and pepper sauce. It is hearty, spicy, and
perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
This dish combines simple ingredients to create a rich and satisfying meal
that is both nutritious and delicious.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- 4-6 large eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and
red bell pepper and cook until softened.

Add garlic, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper; cook for another minute
until fragrant.

Pour in crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for
10-15 minutes until sauce thickens.
- Make small wells in the sauce and crack eggs into each well.
- Cover the skillet and cook until eggs are set to your liking.
- Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro before serving.
